She’s Back! Awkward Black Girl webseries returns in June

Is it June yet?

What a wonderful Tuesday! After a rollercoaster of a weekend with Hollywood industry news (unknown writer Tyler Marceca sells spec “Disciple Program” to studio and Community’s Dan Harmon gets fired), it’s nice to see another win for the indie.

Yesterday, “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” team announced the series would be returning for its second season in June. I’ve been counting down the days since the season 1 finale back in January and cannot wait until next month. ABG is a one of a kind office-based webseries created by Issa Rae, this generation’s “Black Liz Lemon”. The show was originally hosted on its own Youtube channel, but will now be included in the “i am OTHER” channel, the latest project from musician Pharrell.

About i am OTHER

Brought to you by Pharrell Williams, i am OTHER is a new channel and cultural movement dedicated to Thinkers, Innovators and Outcasts—in short, OTHERS. Our programs explore the pursuit of individuality, the defiance of expectations, and the arrival of a new class of visionaries. Be one of us. Be OTHER.

I’m so happy to see the show will remain independent of those awful network studios (Google Dan Harmon and you’ll see what I mean). The Pharrell brand can only add to the growing number of hardcore ABG fans out there already.
America, welcome to the summer of #awkward. If you’re as impatient as I am, definitely catch up on all 12 episodes of last season on the official ABG homepage HERE.
