The Los Angeles Video Project is a community outreach multimedia program that celebrates and enlists LA’s remarkable pool of filmmakers. By engaging these creative members of the Los Angeles community to act and serve as Ambassadors of LA, NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA), along with the support of the City of Los Angeles and and LA Weekly are able to share what these artists call their LA; an insider perspective into this diverse, cosmopolitan city and its neighborhoods.

“For the fourth year, Barnard College, the most sought-after women’s college in the nation, will celebrate women’s leadership both on and off-screen at the Athena Film Festival, scheduled to take place from February 6-9, 2014.
The Festival aims to expand the definition of what it means to be a female leader, highlighting the many ways that women can and do make a difference. The weekend program exhibits a wide range of cinema including Academy Award-nominated films, top tier features, documentaries, and shorts. The Festival’s audiences are invited to engage in conversations with directors, writers, and producers that challenge convention and examine leadership with a new lens.”
Accepts documentaries, features and shorts. All films must feature a female in a leadership position at the center of the story.
Full Frame Documentary Festival

“Full Frame exhibits nearly a hundred feature-length and short documentary films in a variety of programs during the four-day festival. In 2012, fifty-seven films were selected for NEW DOCS from twelve hundred entries, and were eligible for a number of awards in various categories. The 2012 festival offered nine awards, with prizes totaling nearly fifty-thousand dollars in cash and services.”

New Voices in Black Cinema Film Festival (March 13 – 16)

“New Voices in Black Cinema (NVBC) is a multi-genre film festival of quality movies geared towards getting all audiences to appreciate and support independent films from, by, and starring the African and Latino diasporas. Whether the films are contemporary or period pieces, drama or comedy, science fiction or animated, the further purpose of this series is to give filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their talent on a grand stage where they can develop opportunities for limited distribution and create buzz for future industry contacts.”
Accepts documentaries, features and shorts. All films must be directed and/or produced by or star people from the African and Latino diasporas.
