American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at Cannes Film Festival 
May 14 – 25

Late Deadline: February 21

“Since 1997, this prestigious competition has showcased the next generation of filmmakers. Short films, 25 minutes or less in runtime, will be shown in the Roger Ebert Conference Center at The American Pavilion to invited guests attending the Cannes Film Festival. This festival-within-a-festival offers emerging filmmakers visibility to industry professionals at one of the most important events on the international film calendar.”

AFI Docs Film Festival 2014

June 18 – 22

“AFI Docs Presented by Audi (formerly Silverdocs) is an internationally recognized event that honors excellence in filmmaking, supports the diverse voices and free expression of independent storytellers and celebrates the power of documentary to improve our understanding of the world. Now in its 11th year, the festival is embarking on a transformational chapter in its history with an expansion into landmark Washington, DC venues and with the AFI Catalyst Sessions which serve as stimuli for national public discourse and an opportunity to engage our nations leaders with filmmakers striving to shine a light on the greatest issues of today. The festival historically has attracted over 27,000 documentary enthusiasts, policy-makers and thought leaders.”

Palm Springs International ShortFest
June 17 – 23

Regular Deadline: March 10

“The Palm Springs International ShortFest — now in its 20th year — is one of the largest showcase of short films in North America. The seven day competitive festival screens approximately 300 films from 40 countries in a series of 90 minute programs. All films submitted, whether screened in the Festival or not, are eligible to participate in the Market, which consists of a video film library and 20 viewing stations open to sales agents, distributors and other industry representatives. The Festival has twenty competitive categories with prize money, film stock and production services valued over $70,000.00 to be awarded for first and second places in addition to a “Best of Festival” award and a “Future Filmmaker” award. All first place winners in the Live Action and Animation categories, and the Best of the Fest Award winner will automatically become eligible for nomination consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the short film categories.”
